How it works · Blocking C5a
Immune cells release C5a

C5a is a chemical messenger. Overactive immune cells release it to call in more inflammation.

What it’s used for

Severe active ANCA-associated vasculitis (GPA and MPA), together with standard therapy.

How it works

It blocks the C5a receptor on neutrophils, so these cells are less activated and attracted into vessel walls.

How it’s taken

Capsules twice a day with food.

Side effects

Nausea, headache, high blood pressure and liver enzyme rises. Rarely, serious liver injury.

Monitoring

Liver tests before and during treatment, and hepatitis B screening.

Good to know

Check interactions with other medicines, especially some antifungals and antibiotics.
